I can’t believe how fast time has gone this past month.  May seriously flew by! I’ve been so excited to share the details of the trip I took with my mama to Austin last month.

We arrived on a rainy Wednesday morning, we grabbed the rental car and immediately took off to find some brunch. Most our trips basically revolve around food hahah which I don’t mind one bit. We ate at The Driskill Hotel at the 1886 Cafe and Bakery and let me tell you, IT WAS SOOOO GOOD. If you’re ever in Austin you have to check out the stunning hotel and eat there if you get the chance. It’s worth a stop just to check out the lobby and walk through the hotel to the bar area where they have gorgeous furnishings. The rest of the afternoon we had tours planned of the Texas State Capitol and the Governor’s Mansion. Both are free tours and so beautiful. Helpful hint: If you want to tour the Governor’s Mansion, you must make reservations in advance. They do a security check and that takes some time.  For an early dinner that evening we decided to overeat at Rudy’s BBQ.  It is about as casual as you can get and the food is delish! My cousins lived in Austin for six years and told us Rudy’s was a must. We took the rest of the day pretty easy and relaxed and shopped a bit.

The next morning (Thursday) we woke up to a pretty gnarly thunderstorm. We had originally planned on going on a Segway tour of the city but that wasn’t happening so we came up with Plan B which to me was the highlight of the whole trip. We decided to drive to little Waco, TX and check out Magnolia Market from HGTV’s Fixer Upper… and it was THE BEST! The grounds all around the silos are so beautiful and they have the yummiest food trucks to pick lunch from. We spent a couple hours walking around the shop and eating. The day turned out to be sunny and perfect so we totally lucked out.

Friday we were able to start our morning with the Segway tour.  Whenever we visit a new city we usually check to see if the have Segway tours available because they’re such a fun way to get around the city. We did our tour through Nation Tours  and we super loved it. We went at 9 am so the weather was still really nice and not too hot. Afterwards,  we went to grab a bite to eat at Walton’s Fancy and Staple.  It’s the cutest little deli and bakery and so good. We had a campus tour booked at University of Texas that afternoon. J is a huge Longhorns fan and they’re one of my favorite teams as well so it was really neat to get to see and learn about the campus. This tour was free also (book in advance)!  It’s a beautiful campus and has great views overlooking Austin.

In order to not keep this post too long I’m breaking the trip up into two.  I will be posting the second half of the trip shortly with a few of our other favorite spots to eat. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy your weekend!
