Second Day Curls with Kerastase & Shu Uemura

Hey y’all! I’m talking second day curls today.. which in reality start with first day curls. As many of you know I work at a beautiful salon as a hairstylist. It’s called Vivesque and is located in Lehi, Utah. You can learn more about the salon here.

We carry the best product lines on earth, I’m serious too. They’re hands down the gold of haircare. My favorite go-to look is messy waves/curls. However, in order to get that, “I woke up with my hair looking this great!” look, it’s a little more complex.

To prep your hair for styling the first step is a good shampoo and conditioner. Bain Elixer Ultime and Masque Elixer Ultime by Kerastase are great for a daily shampoo and condtioner for seriously everyone. They’re paraben and silicon free which is wonderful. The shampoo gently cleanses but it totally nourishes the hair as well. I love using them because afterwards my hair always feels so soft and shiny and smells sooo yummy. I got my momma the masque for mothers day, and she’s obsessed.

After washing, make sure your hair is towel dried and ready for product. I love to prep with Forme Fatale by Kerastase. I use about a nickel size amount and apply it to my hair from roots to ends, you can add more if needed, but all Kerastase and Shu Uemura products are extremely concentrated so they last a long time. You only need a minimal amount.

Also, this is one of the most important things I’ll ever teach you hair related.. so listen up! Always make sure to use a heat/UV protector to nourish and protect your hair. My two favorites are Nectar Thermique and Ciment Thermique by Kerastase. Apply about dime size starting at the mid strands down to the ends. You can learn more about them here.

Now that your hair has a product for blowdrying as well as a heat protectant, you’re ready to blowdry. Always use a blowdryer with a nozzle so you’re able to aim the air in the direction of your hair growth in order to seal the cuticle of the hair down. Once your hair is dry, you’re able to start curling. I use a hot tools marcel 1″ curling iron and always curl away from your face. I like to create a loose curl. It only takes about 10-15 minutes to curl my whole head because I take a little bit larger sections.

After curling, I love to use Texture Wave by Shu Uemura. Spray it about 6″ away from your hair. It’s great for that beach wave look. What I love most about it is that it gives your hair a matte finish without being sticky, it’s truly the best. It smells super good as well.

After spraying your hair, take a wide tooth comb and gently comb through your mid strands to ends to give the hair separation. After combing through I like to spray it a little more and you get that perfectly messy tousled look. I also love texture the day after doing this on second day hair to kind of revive it.
